Jack Maurice Spiro was born on February 6, 1932 in Statesville, North Carolina to Leible and Rose Spiro.

 

He was the youngest of three siblings, Jacqueline (born 1928) and Mae (born 1929).

Bertha Brun was born on August 17, 1936 in Schluchtern, Germany to Wolf and Babette Brun.

 

She had four siblings, Hannah, Isaac, Fannie and Jacob.

Jack and Bertha were married on February 23, 1958 at the Broadway Central Hotel in New York City.

They lived in Washington, D.C., until 1976, when they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland.

They had three children, Joseph Harold (born 1959), Frances Rebecca (born 1960) and Ruth Naomi (born 1963).

 

Joseph married Helen Levy and has three children: Benjy, Amy and Josh.

 

Tzippy married David Horovitz and has five children: Ari, Daniel, Eli, Meir and Hadassah.

 

Ruth married Chaim Nordlicht and has six children: Eliezer, Tova, Meir, Zevi, Sara and Shira.

 
Today, Jack and Bertha live in Silver Spring, Maryland. They operate Spiro Monument Co. out of their home. Jack is retired from being the administrator at Ohev Shalom Congregation in Washington D.C., and Bertha is retired from working at the Hebrew Academy of Greater Washington.
